'It's the best performance of my career' - Uzoho reacts after terrific display v Man Utd
Published: October 13, 2022Cypriot side Omonia Nicosia were dogged but eventually succumbed to a 1-0 defeat to Premier League giants Manchester United in a UEFA Europa League matchday four clash at Old Trafford on Thursday night.
Omonia went past the ninety without conceding thanks to their terrific Nigerian goalkeeper Francis Uzoho, who made save after save after save but in the end the Red Devils' pressure told with a goal from substitute Scott McTominay.
The Scotland international controlled the ball in the box, kept his head down, and slotted into the bottom corner from close range after good work down the left from Jadon Sancho.in the third minute of stoppage time.
Uzoho made a string of saves before he was beaten, denying Marcus Rashford on several occasions, and also prevented Cristiano Ronaldo, Casemiro and Antony from breaking the deadlock .
The Nigeria international has branded his performance against Manchester United the best of his career after one hundred and thirteen games as a professional.
Speaking to BT Sport shortly after the game, Uzoho said : "It's a dream come true for me to play here and I am happy with my performance.
"Arguably it's the best performance of my career. I am proud of my team-mates – it was not a one-man job. We gave everything on the field."
Uzoho and his teammates bowed out of the Europa League after suffering their fourth consecutive loss in Group E but can qualify for the knockout round of the Conference League if results go their way.
