EFL Trophy Northampton 1 Arsenal 3 : Two Flying Eagles-eligible players on target for Gunners
Published: October 18, 2022Two Flying Eagles-eligible players in the shape of Zach Awe and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji played pivotal roles in Arsenal U21s away win over Northampton Town.
The U21s of Arsenal defeated Northampton Town 3-1 in an EFL Trophy (also known as Papa John's Trophy for sponsorship reasons) match played at the Sixfields Stadium on Tuesday evening.
Four Anglo-Nigerian youngsters were on parade for Arsenal namely Zach Awe, Ethan Nwaneri, Nathan Butler-Oyedeji and Joel Ideho.
Awe played the entire duration of the game, with Nathan Butler-Oyedeji substituted in stoppage time while Nwaneri and Joel Ideho came on as second half substitutes.
As early as the eighth minute, Northampton opened the scoring with a header from Tomlinson following a corner kick by Liam Cross.
In the 56th minute, Arsenal equalized as Zach Awe steered the ball in after a delivery from Mathew Smith.
The coach then brought on Premier League record holder, Ethan Nwaneri in the 63rd minute.
Arsenal's comeback started as Butler-Oyedeji found Amario Cozier-Duberry, who went on to put the visitors in front in the 73rd minute.
Joel Ideho made an entry into the game in the 76th minute as a replacement for Cozier-Duberry.
Butler-Oyedeji netted Arsenal's third goal in the dying minutes of the game after combining with Ideho.
Shortly after scoring, Butler-Oyedeji was withdrawn for Kacurri.
With two wins from three matches, the young Gunners are through to the knockout stages of the Papa John's Trophy.
