Everton youth team coach provides update on injury suffered by in-form Nigerian striker
Published: October 23, 2022Everton U-18 side on Saturday were held to a 1-1 draw by Newcastle United at the Finch Farm with young forward of Nigerian descent Cody Ebere on target for the Merseysiders.
The goal scored in the second minute of the match was the third for Ebere in successive matches for the Toffees in the U18 Premier League.
Josh Donaldson equalised for the away side just before the halftime break.
Ebere was substituted at halftime as a precaution after feeling discomfort in his hamstring.
Everton Under-18s assistant manager Kieran Driscoll rued the injury to the player of Nigerian origin whose presence was a menace to the opposition.
“It was a shame we had to bring him off, but it would have been too high-risk for him to continue.
“His goal was really well taken. Coby is in a good place and has started the season well. He looks full of confidence," the assistant manager told Everton's official website.
Ebere has played nonstop at Everton since the age of eleven, rising through the ranks before signing his first professional contract in September 2022, a deal that will keep him at Goodison Park until June 30, 2025.
He has been described as a fast, skillful and powerful attacker who operates predominantly from the wing but is also capable of playing as a center forward.
