New coach for Sheriff Tiraspol's Nigerian duo in UEL clash v Manchester United
Published: October 25, 2022A new coach will be in the Sheriff Tiraspol dugout when the Moldovan Superliga champions take on Manchester United on matchday five of the Europa League on Thursday.
The 20-time Moldovan champions announced through their official website on Tuesday morning that Croatian football manager
Stjepan Tomas has resigned his appointment as coach of the club.
Tomas has parted company with Sheriff after taking the blame for the defeat to FC Petrocub Hincesti this past weekend, a game in which former Nigeria U23 international Iyayi Atiemwen and Rasheed Akanbi started but were substituted in the 83rd minute.
Akanbi registered 22 appearances and scored seven goals under Tomas, while Atiemwen was involved in six goals (3 goals, 3 assists) in eighteen games across all competitions.
The two attack-minded players started for the Moldovan side as they suffered a 2-0 defeat at the hands of Manchester United in the first leg last month and are in contention to be included in the traveling squad to England for the away leg.
Atiemwen is once again available for selection after sitting out the home game against Real Sociedad due to suspension as a result of accumulated bookings.
At the moment, Sheriff have not officially announced the name of the new head coach ahead of the game against the Red Devils.
