Confirmed team news : Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible player ruled of Arsenal game
Published: November 04, 2022Speaking to reporters at the pre-match press conference before his side's English Premier League meeting with Arsenal, Chelsea manager Graham Potter confirmed that Super Eagles-eligible central midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka will play no part against the Gunners.
A hamstring injury means the England U20 international will not be available for selection against the Premier League table toppers.
The former Aston Villa wonderkid was heavily tipped to make his starting debut for the Blues in Wednesday's Champions League clash against Dinamo Zagreb but missed out completely from the list of players called up.
Chukwuemeka trained on his own before the Croatian champions came to town, much to the disappointment of Chelsea fans who wanted to see him make his full debut.
Two months into Potter's reign as manager of Chelsea, the 19-year-old has made three appearances in the top flight, all of them off the bench.
Providing an update on his squad, Potter said : "Kepa, no. I don't think he will play before the World Cup. Kovacic trained today so he will be in contention.
"Carney, no. He still has a slight issue with his hamstring that we are getting to the bottom of."
Chelsea are unbeaten in the three Premier League matches Chukwuemeka was given minutes, beating Wolverhampton Wanderers while drawing against Brentford and Manchester United.
