Nigerian wingbacks react to retirement of former Chelsea teammate Cahill
Published: November 17, 2022Nigerian wingbacks Victor Moses and Ola Aina have sent messages to Garry Cahill after the defender called time on his playing career.
Cahill, who was a former Chelsea captain, took to his Instagram handle to announce his retirement from football after 20 years of active service.
The former England international was phenomenal for Chelsea, winning eight titles in seven years at Stamford Bridge.
Cahill shared the pitch with three Nigerian footballers; John Mikel Obi, Victor Moses and Ola Aina.
Moses posted on Twitter : "Congratulations @GaryJCahill on a fantastic career! It was a pleasure playing with you mate".
Reacting to Cahill's Instagram post, Aina said : "Amazing career .All the best Gaz".
Cahill was part of the all conquering Chelsea squad that won the 2012 UEFA Champions League alongside John Mikel Obi. He also won the UEFA Europa League crown with Mikel and Victor Moses in 2013.
Aina, who was still learning how to play his trade in senior football, featured three times for Chelsea in their 2016/2017 Premier League title winning season.
The 36-year-old Chelsea legend also represented Crystal Palace, AFC Bournemouth, Bolton Wanderers and Aston Villa.
Cahill is the third former Chelsea star to announce his retirement in the ongoing season after John Mikel Obi and Ramires.
