Okocha reveals the downside of Batshuayi's game, admits Belgium are missing Lukaku
Published: November 27, 2022Speaking ahead of Belgium's World Cup clash against Morocco at the Al Thumama Stadium, Doha, Nigeria legend Austin Jay-Jay Okocha revealed the downside of Michy Batshuayi's game.
The Fenerbahce striker scored the winning goal in Belgium's hard-fought 1-0 victory over Canada in their opening match in Group F.
Against the Canadians, Batshuayi registered a team-high five shots with only one ending up in the back of the net.
Okocha noted that Batshuayi has a poor shot conversion rate and suggested that he is not on the same level as Romelu Lukaku, who is struggling to overcome a muscle injury and is on the bench against Morocco.
The Chelsea-owned striker is Belgium's all-time top scorer in history with 68 goals in 102 appearances.
"The downside of his (Batshuayi's) game is he has to be more clinical. He always gets himself in the right positions but his finishing is always a bit questionable," Okocha said on SuperSport.
"He's a player that needs a lot of chances to convert and that's where Lukaku is being missed.
"Hopefully he'll grow as the tournament goes on knowing that he's the main man now because of the injury that Lukaku has.
"Hopefully he will know that he needs to convert more of his chances."
Batshuayi, who wins his 50th cap against the Moroccans, has 27 international goals to his name.
