Four Christmas gifts Super Eagles coach Jose Peseiro will wish for
Published: December 12, 2022The yuletide season is upon us and Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro must have some professional wishes for the new year, 2023.
All Nigeria Soccer attempts to provide four things on the mind of the former Venezuela national team coach
1. Fit Super Eagles Players In Premier League, La Liga, Serie A Before Next Afcon Qualifiers
Super Eagles head coach Jose Peseiro will be hoping that his players in the top flight leagues like Wilfred Ndidi, Alex Iwobi, Moses Simon, Victor Osimhen,, Samuel Chukwueze etc will be fully fit and prepared for the restart of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
Nigerian players like Samuel Chukwueze, Kenneth Omeruo, Kelechi Nwakali, Umar Sadiq (recuperating) are strutting their talents in Spain.
The Italian Serie A will restart on January 4 and this is the home of stars like Victor Osimhen, Ola Aina, Ademola, Lookman an d Isaac Success.
Qualification for the Afcon will be his number one priority and with the Premier League back on Boxing day (December 26), the action never stops.
Many clubs are involved in preparatory games even as the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar continues so an injury-free run-in will be a Christmas wish for the coach.
2. Preparations For 2023 Afcon Qualifiers
The qualification campaign for the 2023 Afcon in Ivory Coast will restart in March of next year. The tournament has been pushed back to January 2024 by the Confederation of African Football.
To this end, the coach will hope that the Nigeria Football Federation will take every step in ensuring that the preparations for the next round of Afcon qualifying games in March 2023 will be taken seriously.
The match venue is expected to be the Moshood Abiola stadium, Abuja but state governments hoping to make political statements might be keen to pursue an agenda of hosting the home game in March.
Hopefully there won't be a problem with logistics, players availability, match venue, match bonuses and other sundry issues.
3. The Restart of the Domestic League
Jose Peseiro is not unmindful of the agitation by sections of Nigerian football faithful to have the Nigeria Professional Football (NPFL) players be part of his team.
The next season is yet to have a new start date and that is a huge worry for those who care about the growth of the league back home.
Peseiro won't be too pleased to have the negative feelings of marginalization towards home-based players continue to linger.
He would love to give the players opportunities. Impressing when given that opportunity is another matter entirely.
4. Super Eagles Contract To Be Extended
The Super Eagles head coach will be hoping that with qualification for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations going as envisaged, the next big news should be an extension to his contract.
Morocco has become the most successful team in the history of the FIFA World Cup by reaching the semifinals of the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. Every other African team will hope to surpass that feat in future World Cups.
A good Christmas present for Peseiro would be the new Nigeria Football Federation board coming out to give Peseiro the chance to take Nigeria to the 2026 Nations Cup by declaring that with the condition that he wins the Afcon, he will be in charge of the side when the next World Cup holds.
