PL2 : Red-hot Mebude at the double for Manchester City in 6-0 rout of Arsenal
Published: January 08, 2023Arsenal's unbeaten start to the Premier League 2 season ended on Saturday as they were thrashed 6-0 by Manchester City at the Academy Stadium on Saturday afternoon.
Manchester City knew they would go top of the table if they beat the league leaders and they did it in emphatic fashion
Three players of Nigerian descent started from the off, with Dire Mebude in City's starting lineup, while Zach Awe and Nathan Butler-Oyedeji started for the Londoners.
The Citizens put the game to bed at halftime courtesy of braces from Alex Robertson and Carlos Borges with Dire Mebude also getting his name on the scoresheet.
Dire, younger brother of former Watford winger Dapo Mebude, provided the assist for Manchester City's second goal, when he laid the ball on a plate for Carlos Borges.
The Blues led 4-0 four minutes before halftime as Mebude fired in a powerful left-footed strike and he wrapped up the scoring on the hour mark when he slotted home from a tight angle.
Mebude has directly participated in seventeen goals (11 goals, 6 assists) in nineteen appearances combined in the Premier League 2, Papa Johns Trophy and UEFA Youth League this season.
