Liverpool product, CD Feirense striker named in Guinea-Bissau squad for AFCONQ v Nigeria
Published: March 05, 2023With a statement on their official website, Portuguese setup CD Feirense have confirmed that their striker Jardel has been called up by Guinea-Bissau manager, Baciro Candé for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifying matches against Nigeria this month.
The Super Eagles will host the African wild dogs a the MKO Abiola National Stadium in Abuja on March 24, 2023, and the second leg is scheduled to take place at the Estádio 24 de Setembro on March 27.
The Football Federation of Guinea-Bissau have not officially announced the roster for the double-header against Nigeria but CD Feirense officially informed that Jardel has been invited for both games.
The 25-year-old is having a fine season at CD Feirense, scoring eleven goals from twenty five appearances across all competitions.
This is the first time that Jardel has been called up for a competitive game although he is not a new face in the Guinea-Bissau national team as he was in the squad that lost 3-1 to Gabon in a friendly last year.
Liverpool academy product Toni Correia Gomes has also received an invitation for the AFCONQ against Nigeria, Azerbaijan Premier League club Zira FK officially announced two days ago.
Gomes, 24, is a former Portugal youth teamer and represented the country at the prestigious 2015 U17 Algarve Tournament, before he was promoted to the U18s.
During his three-year association with Liverpool, he didn't make his senior debut but featured for the club in the U18 Premier League and Premier League 2.
Jardel and Gomes made their debuts for Guinea-Bissau against Gabon on November 17, 2022.
