Meet the Liverpool U21 defender who could be useful for Salisu Yusuf's Olympic Eagles

Oludare Olufunwa is a versatile centre-back who plays for Liverpool's development squad

Olufunwa was born in England to a Nigerian father which makes him eligible to play for Nigeria. He is yet to feature for England at any level but could be useful for Salisu Yusuf's Olympic Eagles.

He joined the Reds youth set-up from Southampton last summer after his 11-year stay with the Saints came to an end.

Since his celebrated move to Liverpool, Olufunwa has however struggled for game time due to fitness issues, featuring just twice in Premier League 2 and has been an unused substitute five times.

He has made five other appearances for Liverpool U21s, including three matches in the Premier League International Cup and two in the Papa Johns Trophy.

The highlight of his season so far was netting against  Paris Saint-Germain in the Premier League International Cup despite playing out of position at right-back.

Olufunwa, who has previously mentioned his senior colleague Virgil Van Dijk as his role model, is known for his strength, speed and ability to play the ball from the back.

Although he has not played much this season, the 21-year-old's quality is not in doubt and his exposure could come in handy for the Olympic Eagles if called upon.

The Olympic Eagles are currently jostling for a ticket for the 2023 Africa U23 Cup of Nations, which will be staged in Morocco later this year.
