AFCONQ : Ndidi, Etebo experience wins it for Super Eagles in defensive midfield

Nigeria's team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau will be made known this week.

Already there are projections on how the team would look like but in All Nigeria Soccer's countdown to the double headers, we look at the players that should take the defensive midfield roles.

Wilfred Ndidi

The Leicester City star may not have been in great form for the Foxes but his absence in international matches for Nigeria have supposedly been a bad omen.

Back to fitness after some time on the treatment table, we expect Ndidi to take up the responsibility of screening the back four against Guinea-Bissau as experience is needed to see off the opposition.

Oghenekaro Etebo

Aris of Greece star, Oghenekaro Etebo has impressively played in 17 league matches this season for the Greek side after an injury setback.

If this game  had come towards the end of 2022, All Nigeria Soccer would not have endorsed the experienced international to partner Ndidi.

Club Brugges' Rafael Onyedika who has proven to be a good replacement would have sufficed.

Versatile defender, Chidozie Awaziem who has admitted that he's capable of playing as a defensive midfielder is also suitable.

These games are not for experimental purposes, Peseiro should have the duo of Ndidi and Etebo start if they are fit for the matches.
