Nigerian-born striker on target, misses penalty as Rangers qualify for Glasgow Cup final
Published: April 18, 2023Nigerian-born striker Thompson Ishaka was among the scorers as Rangers B thrashed Queen's Park 4-0 to advance to the City of Glasgow Cup final on Tuesday evening.
The Light Blues confirmed the capture of the 2023 Flying Eagles invitee at the end of last month following a successful trial.
Rangers B manager David McCallum named Ishaka in the starting lineup against Queen's Park, with the Nigerian supporting Robbie Ure and Tony Weston in attack.
Rangers were rewarded for their brilliant start when Robbie Ure opened the scoring midway through the first half.
Ishaka doubled Rangers' advantage in the 27th minute and had another chance to increase the lead in the 32nd minute, only to see his powerful spot kick saved by goalkeeper Callan McKenna.
Four minutes before halftime, the Riverlane Football Academy Enugu product sent an effort over the crossbar.
Six minutes into the second half, Ishaka came close again to adding to the score sheet but his powerful shot went inches wide of the goal.
After Ishaka was substituted, goals from Ure and Zak Lovelace secured a comfortable win for the defending champions of the Glasgow Cup.
Ishaka made his competitive debut for Rangers B against Celtic on April 2 and his second appearance in the Lowland League was against University of Stirling FC six days later.
