Chelsea set to announce retained and released list: Three players of Nigerian descent to depart
Published: June 04, 2023Premier League giants Chelsea are set to announce their retained and released list in the coming days following the conclusion of the 2022-2023 season.
Although the official list has not been made public, allnigeriasoccer.com understands that at least three players of Nigerian descent will be leaving Chelsea for good at development squad level.
Bryan Fiabema, Derrick Abu and Prince Adegoke have not had their contracts renewed and will officially depart Stamford Bridge upon the expiration of their deals on June 30, 2023.
None of the aforementioned players of Nigerian descent have debuted for Chelsea's first team, but Fiabema and Abu have been spotted training with the senior players on more than one occasion.
Norway U20 international Fiabema wants to continue his career abroad and there's also a possibility of him remaining in England, with Barnsley among his suitors in the Football League.
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Adegoke is leaving Chelsea seven years after joining them on schoolboy terms.
The shot-stopper has been linked with possible moves to Leicester City and Nottingham Forest, and trained with Stoke City in October 2022 after he was recalled from his loan spell at non-leaguers Welling United.
Anglo-German-Nigerian fullback Abu is keen on leaving Chelsea in search of game time at senior level.
Abu, who joined Chelsea at U11 level, trained with Crystal Palace late April with a view to a permanent transfer this summer.
