Kasimpasa return on the cards for ex-Chelsea CB Omeruo; Saudi club also interested
Published: July 19, 2023Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that former Chelsea centre-back Kenneth Omeruo had given his word that he would be returning for a third spell at Turkish Super Lig club Kasımpaşa S.K. this summer.
The Super Eagles captain for their last two 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers against Guinea-Bissau and Sierra Leone was expected to travel to Turkey this week to undergo a routine medical at Kasimpasa but the trip is being delayed because there's interest from an unnamed Saudi Arabian club.
At this moment, the Saudi club have not yet firmed up their interest by tabling a contract offer for the 29-year-old, putting Kasımpaşa S.K in pole position for his services.
With age not on his side as he turns 30 in October, Omeruo wants a big pay-day, which Kasımpaşa are unlikely to offer him.
Omeruo has been at Leganes since 2018. first joining them on loan before sealing a permanent transfer in the summer of 2019, and has logged 123 appearances for Los Pepineros with 51 of them coming in La Liga.
The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles defender enjoyed two loan spells at Kasımpaşa during his time at Chelsea, making 54 appearances for the Istanbul club.
Omeruo had a work permit to play for Chelsea but was not given a chance and instead was loaned out to ADO Den Haag, Middlesbrough, Kasımpaşa, Alanyaspor and Leganes.
