Spartak Moscow chief comments on the future of in-form midfielder Victor Moses
Published: July 24, 2023
Spartak Moscow CEO Oleg Malyshev has shared an update on the future of former Nigeria international Victor Moses at the Red and Whites.
Moses was in brilliant form during pre-season preparations with a brace against Torpedo Moscow and followed that up with Spartak Moscow's first goal in their first official match this season.
The former Chelsea and Crystal Palace star passed the ball into the net just before halftime to help Spartak Moscow to a nervy 3-2 win on Sunday evening.
Moses' future at the Muscovites has been the subject of speculation since the tail end of last season because he has less than a year to run on his contract with the Russian Premier League giants.
Malyshev has confirmed that Spartak Moscow have not yet started contract talks with Moses, who will be a free agent at the end of this season.
"We haven’t talked to Moses about a contract extension yet. But we will watch and follow the game," Malyshev said to Sport Express.
"Now we are counting on him. He is one of the best starting players. Let's see what will happen in the future."
The 2013 Africa Cup of Nations winner has appeared in 66 official matches for Spartak Moscow since joining them in 2020, first on loan before sealing a permanent transfer in the summer of 2021, which ended a nine-year association with Chelsea.
