Brentford forward Schade competes with Saka, Sterling, Luis Diaz for PL GOTM
Published: September 07, 2023Super Eagles-eligible forward Kevin Schade is in the running for the Premier League Goal of the Month award for August 2023.
It took the Germany U21 international of Nigerian descent 22 appearances to score his first goal for Brentford and it was worth the wait as the goal was of the highest quality.
On matchday three in a London derby against Crystal Palace, Schade scored a brilliant solo effort to give the Bees the lead after seventeen minutes.
The 21-year-old picked up a pass from Christian Norgaard, toyed with Joel Ward before firing a unstoppable shot past the Crystal Palace goalkeeper.
Schade is competing with Arsenal's Bukayo Saka, Chelsea's Raheem Sterling, Luis Díaz of Liverpool, Newcastle United striker Alexander Isak, Sheffield United's Gustavo Hamer, Brighton & Hove Albion winger Kaoru Mitoma and West Ham's Jarrod Bowen for the monthly accolade.
Schade initially joined Brentford on loan in January before signing a multi-year contract in the summer.
Predominantly a winger, he has been named in Germany's squad for international friendlies against Japan and France this month as part of the country's preparations for the 2024 European Championship.
Schade has two caps for Germany's senior national team - both of which came in friendly matches.
