2013 AFCON winner Emenike reveals the key role he played in Moses' transfer to Spartak Moscow
Published: September 18, 20232013 Africa Cup of Nations-winning striker with the Super Eagles, Emmanuel Emenike has revealed that he played a key role in ensuring Victor Moses was signed by Spartak Moscow.
Moses initially joined the Russian Premier League team on loan from Chelsea in October 2020 and was signed on a permanent basis the following season to end his nine-year association with the English giants.
Emenike and Moses were teammates in the Nigeria national team for several years and also played together at West Ham United in the second half of the 2015-2016 season.
Emenike is a household name in Russian football on the back of his exploits for Spartak Moscow, where he mustered 24 goals in 49 outings before he was sold to Fenerbahce.
The 36-year-old says Moses sounded him out for advice as the midfielder pondered whether or not to join Spartak Moscow, and added that his former club contacted him for an opinion about his compatriot.
Speaking to Sport24 correspondent Vladislav Shapiro last week, Emenike said: "Yes, he called me for advice before moving to Spartak.
"And before that, they called me from Spartak itself and asked what kind of person Moses was.
"Great, of course! And the footballer is incredible, he takes Spartak seriously."
Moses made his return from injury this past weekend as Spartak Moscow defeated FC Sochi 1-0 in the Russian Premier League.
The Crystal Palace academy product is in the final year of his contract with the Red and Whites.
