'Should have scored at least 25 goals' - Bayer star Boniface reacts after breaking 29yo Bundesliga record
Published: September 24, 2023Super Eagles striker Victor Boniface has reacted to breaking a 29-year-old German Bundesliga record of having the most shots on goal after five rounds of games.
The previous record was held by Uwe Wegmann who registered 25 shots on goal for Bochum in the 1994/1995 season.
Boniface broke the record on Sunday afternoon when Bayer Leverkusen walloped newly promoted Heidenheim 4-1 at the BayArena.
The former Royale Union Saint-Gilloise striker was also responsible for 2 of the goals scored by the Black and Reds in what was another brilliant day in office.
Speaking after the encounter, he wasn't satisfied with breaking the long-standing record as he felt that he could have done better.
In quotes relayed by Bild, the Nigerian striker said:"If you have 38 shots on goal as a player, you should have scored at least 25 goals. So I don't want to congratulate myself on that."
Boniface has only failed to register a goal contribution for Bayer Leverkusen on one occasion this season which was in their 2-2 draw with Bayern Munich on matchday 4 of the Bundesliga.
He has notched 8 goals across all competitions for the Black and Reds in this campaign.
