History-maker: Southampton loanee Onuachu goes into the record book after third goal for Trabzonspor
Published: September 30, 2023The performances of Nigeria international Paul Onuachu since his transfer to Turkish Super Lig club Trabzonspor suggest that he is back to his best, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Southampton-owned center forward joined Trabzonspor in the summer transfer window in search of regular playing opportunities as he wasn't in the plans of Saints boss Russell Martin for the 2023-2024 campaign.
Onuachu's brilliant form for Trabzonspor is remarkable given that he was lacking match fitness when he arrived in Turkey having logged 22 minutes in all competitions for the Saints before he was farmed out on loan.
The 2.01m tall striker is back scoring goals just as he did during his spell at Racing Genk, where he mustered 85 in 134 games.
Onuachu opened the scoring with a header in the third minute as Trabzonspor defeated Pendikspor 2-1 at Papara Park on Saturday, taking his scoring run to three consecutive Turkish Super Lig matches in the process.
The FC Ebedei product netted on his debut against Besiktas on September 17 and scored his second goal in Trabzonspor colours versus Hatayspor on September 25.
According to the statisticians at OPTA, Onuachu made history as the first Trabzonspor player to score a goal in his first three Super League matches after the 2007-2008 season.
In addition to his three goals, Onuachu registered an assist in Trabzonspor's 3-2 defeat suffered at the hands of Hatayspor.
