Arsenal manager promotes tri-national midfielder eligible for Nigeria, Spain, England to first team training
Published: November 10, 2023Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta promoted tri-national midfielder Miguel Azeez to first-team training on Friday, on the eve of his side's Premier League clash against Burnley at the Emirates Stadium, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Spanish football tactician will not be able to count on the services of two midfielders, Thomas Partey and Emile Smith Rowe, for the visit of the Clarets, while club captain Martin Odegaard is racing against the clock to be fit for the matchday 12 tie.
With limited options at his disposal in the center of the pitch, Arteta ran the rule over Azeez with a view to his possible inclusion in the matchday squad against Burnley.
Born in England to a Nigerian father and Spanish mother,. Azeez was linked with a transfer to Barcelona in the summer transfer window but a move did not happen.
The Anglo-Spanish-Nigerian youngster was tipped as a future first team player at Arsenal during his teenage years but has fallen off the radar after unsuccessful loan spells at Portsmouth, UD Ibiza and Wigan Athletic.
He has been starved of game since the start of the season, making two appearances off the bench in the Premier League 2 .
Born September 2002, Azeez was registered on Arsenal's Premier League roster as an U21 player, meaning he is eligible to play against Vincent Kompany's team on Saturday should the need arise.
The former England U20 international has received five call-ups for Premier League games but wasn't utilized off the bench on each occasion.
