'He's Arsenal's player' - Wrexham coach confirms injured Nigerian GK is under the care of the Gunners
Published: December 15, 2023Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson provided an injury update on Arthur Okonkwo during his pre-match press conference ahead of his side's League Two meeting with Colchester United.
Okonkwo joined the Red Dragons on loan for the remainder of the season in the hours leading up to the close of the summer transfer window and quickly established himself as a first team regular.
A jaw injury he suffered in the first half of the 2-2 draw with Harrogate Town meant he missed the last two games played by Wrexham, against Yeovil Town in the second round of the Emirates FA Cup and Burton Albion in the EFL Trophy.
The Hale End Academy product was in fine form before his spell on the sidelines, posting six shutouts in thirteen all-competition appearances.
Parkinson revealed that Okonkwo is back at his parent club Arsenal receiving treatment but hopes to have him back soon.
"Arthur is at Arsenal today and he has gone to hopefully get the all-clear to get back and join up with us." he was quoted as saying by Wrexham's official website.
"We’re eager to have him in and around the building and get him back on the training pitch.
"He’s Arsenal’s player and under their care, but equally, if he gets the thumbs up then we’ll get him back involved."
Wrexham currently occupy second position in the League Two table with 37 points garnered from twenty games and are also through to the third round of the FA Cup.
