Chelsea willing to pay release clause of 35-cap Nigeria international
Published: March 24, 2024Despite the fear of breaching the Premier League Profit and Sustainable rules, Chelsea are repeatedly willing to pay the release clause of 35-cap Nigeria international Victor Osimhen.
According to Caughtoffside citing Italian journalist Rudy Galetti, the Premier League giants are ready to pay the release clause of the Napoli star which has been said to be between €120m-€130m .
The report also stated the 2015 Fifa U17 World Cup Golden Boot winner is ready to move to Stamford Bridge, which will be positive news for the London-based club.
There had earlier been apprehension regarding Chelsea's ability to sign Osimhen due to financial impediment and that led to suggestions that they will need to sell before making a marquee signing like the Super Eagles forward.
The two-time European champions have continued to struggle for goals despite bolstering their attack last summer which cost them the Carabao Cup and might make them miss playing in any European competition for the second consecutive season.
While Osimhen is highly unlikely to finish the season as the top scorer in the Serie A, with 12 goals separating him and the league leading goalscorer at the moment, there is no doubt that he remains one of the best strikers in Europe.
The 25-year-old was initially named in Nigeria's 27-man squad for their March internationals against Ghana and Mali but pulled out of the squad due to fitness issues.
