Barcelona looking to reignite their interest in Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder
Published: April 22, 2024According to talkSPORT, Barcelona are looking to reignite their interest in Chelsea's Super Eagles-eligible midfielder Carney Chukwuemeka.
The Spanish giants were one of the teams interested in signing the England youth international before his move to Stamford Bridge in 2022.
Game time has been as scarce for Chukwuemeka since he joined the Blues as he has made just nine Premier League appearances this season though that is also as a result of his recurring injuries.
Barcelona are hoping to capitalize on his lack of opportunities to persuade the 20-year-old to ditch London for Catalonia at the end of the current campaign.
Just like Chelsea, the Spanish giants are also well stocked in the midfield with the likes of Pedri, Frenkie de Jong, Gavi, Oriol Romeu, Fermín López and İlkay Gündoğan battling it out for places.
This means the Aston Villa Academy product will also have to jostle for a place in the starting lineup if he joins the Blaugranes.
He is said to be highly rated by Chelsea but it remains to be seen whether the club will be willing to sacrifice him to get funds to reinforce the squad particularly in attack where they are looking to sign a striker.
Barcelona have also been linked with two Super Eagles midfielders Wilfred Ndidi and Raphael Onyedika.
