'I want more than this' - Dessers refusing to rest on his laurels after netting 20th goal for Rangers
Published: April 28, 2024Cyriel Dessers is refusing to rest on his laurels despite an already impressive debut season with Rangers.
The Nigerian striker scored a 74th minute winner in Rangers' 2-1 victory over St. Mirren at the SMISA Stadium on Sunday.
Despite facing criticism for his perceived wastefulness in front of goal, Dessers silenced his doubters by netting his 20th goal of the season, securing a crucial victory for The Gers.
Rangers broke the deadlock in the 32nd minute, courtesy of a defensive error that Dessers capitalized on, leading to an own goal by James Bolton.
However, St. Mirren swiftly equalized through Mikael Mandron just five minutes later.
With the game finely poised, Dessers seized the moment with 16 minutes remaining, expertly heading in a cross from James Tavernier to secure the win for Rangers.
Despite late pressure from the hosts, Rangers' defensive partnership of Leon Balogun and John Souttar held firm, preserving the victory and reigniting hopes of another title.
Reflecting on his milestone 20th goal, Dessers expressed satisfaction but emphasized his desire for greater achievements.
"If you told me I’d have scored twenty goals at the start of the season, I’d have taken it, but now I have a couple more assists, so for sure it feels good, but I want more than this," Dessers remarked in an interview with Sky Sports Scotland.
Dessers' remarkable tally now stands at 20 goals and 8 assists in 49 appearances for the Glasgow-based club this season, underscoring his pivotal role in Rangers' pursuit of success.
