Newly-promoted Turkish club ready to challenge Trabzonspor for signing of Southampton loanee Onuachu
Published: May 01, 2024According to NTV Spor, newly-promoted Turkish side Göztepe have joined Trabzonspor in the race to join Super Eagles striker Paul Onuachu.
Courtesy of a 2-0 victory over Gençlerbirliği, Stanimir Stoilov's side secured their promotion to the Süper Lig and are now ready to inject more quality to the side with the addition of the Southampton loanee.
Besides the 29-year-old, Göztepe want to sign Mateuzs Lis who is also on loan from Southampton and has played a key role in their promotion
Onuachu is said to be interested in staying in the Turkish top-flight after a successful first season in the division, which should encourage his suitors.
The lanky striker who is currently on loan with Trabzonspor has bagged 12 goals and has provided four assists in 18 appearances in the Süper Lig this season.
Trabzonspor are keen on retaining the services of the Nigeria international but are struggling to meet his valuation and are now considering extending his loan term.
Southampton are reportedly requesting at least €12m for his signature, but the Black Sea Storm can only afford €10m.
Göztepe are owned by Sport Republic, a London-based sports investment firm which has a majority stake in Southampton.
