Arsenal midfielder eligible for Super Falcons, USWNT named in England 20-player squad for U17 EURO
Published: May 01, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com can exclusively report that Arsenal's box-to-box midfielder Omotara Junaid is in contention to add to her international caps at youth level for England this month.
The talented tri-national player has been named in the Young Lionesses' 20-player squad for the 2024 UEFA Women's U17 EURO finals which will hold in Sweden from May 5-18.
Junaid became provisionally cap-tied to England in March after making her first competitive appearance for the Young Lionesses in their opening game of the Elite Round of the 2024 UEFA Women’s U17 EURO.
Apart from England, the 16-year-old is eligible to represent the United States of America, where she was born, as well as the Super Falcons through her father.
She was a key member of the Arsenal Women's Invincible squad that went unbeaten throughout the 2022-2023 season, scoring nine goals over the course of the campaign to finish as the team's second highest goalscorer.
Natalie Henderson's Young Lionesses face Norway in their opening game in Group A of the 2024 U17 EURO on Sunday, May 5 at the Klostergårdens Idrottsplats in Lund.
They will then face hosts Sweden at the same venue on May 8, before concluding the group stage against France on May 11.
The 2024 U17 EURO acts as UEFA's qualifier for the 2024 FIFA U17 Women's World Cup in the Dominican Republic, with the winner, runner-up and third placed teams qualifying as the European representatives.
