Italian champions Inter Milan plotting move for Kayode as potential replacement for Dumfries
Published: May 04, 2024
Newly-crowned Serie A Champions Inter Milan are keeping a close eye on Fiorentina's talented young defender, Michael Kayode, as a potential replacement for Denzel Dumfries, should he leave the club this summer.
According to Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews, the Italy U21 international has emerged as a top target for the Nerazzurri, thanks to his impressive performances in Serie A this season.
Dumfries' future at Inter is uncertain due to his contract situation, with his current deal set to expire in June 2024.
If he doesn't sign an extension, there's a risk of losing him on a free transfer next year.
To avoid this, Inter is considering either extending his contract or selling him this summer to cash in on his value.
Manchester United has long been interested in Dumfries, and if he becomes available, Inter will need a suitable replacement.
That's where Kayode comes in – a 19-year-old right-back who has made a significant impact at Fiorentina this season.
Despite his young age, Kayode has already established himself as a starter for La Viola, making 24 appearances in the league and impressing with his defensive skills and attacking prowess.
Inter see Kayode as an ideal replacement for Dumfries due to their similar playing styles and positions.
If Dumfries leaves, Kayode could be the perfect candidate to fill the gap, and Inter is likely to make a move for the Nigeria-eligible youngster this summer.
