Ex-Tottenham manager backs Adebayo to get Premier League move if Luton Town are relegated
Published: May 06, 2024Former Tottenham manager Tim Sherwood has backed Super Eagles-eligible Elijah Adebayo to get a Premier League move if Luton Town are relegated.
It took a while before the 26-year-old settled down in the English top-flight, scoring just two goals in his first 14 games but hit form last December.
Adebayo scored seven goals in his next nine games, including strikes against Arsenal, Manchester City and Chelsea while netting his first hat-trick in Luton Town's victory over Brighton in January.
He got nominated for the Premier League Player of the Month in January and was in contention to be included in the Super Eagles squad to face Ghana and Mali in March but was deterred by injury.
The injury ruled him out for 11 league games and he didn't return to action till the tail end of last month when Luton Town lost to Wolves at the Molineux, coming on as a second half substitute in the encounter.
He was finally restored into the starting lineup last weekend during the Hatters 1-1 draw with Everton and scored his side's only goal of the game.
Sherwood was impressed with the Anglo-Nigerian forward's performance against the Toffees and has backed him to join a Premier League team if Luton Town gets relegated.
"I love the way he throws Ashley Young to the floor. He'll definitely be a Premier League player next season if they get relegated," he told Premier League's Weekend Wrap via Goodison News.
Rob Edwards' side sit three points adrift of safety with two games left to be played and will have to record maximum points in their forthcoming games and hope Nottingham Forest drop points to safeguard their top-flight status.
