Report highlights why Ajax striker Akpom is a very interesting player for several PL clubs
Published: May 08, 2024A report from Dutch newspaper De Telegraaf has highlighted why Chuba Akpom is a very interesting player for several English Premier League clubs.
Less than a year after his celebrated move to Ajax Amsterdam, the Super Eagles hopeful is being linked with a departure from the four-time European champions ahead of the summer transfer window.
Akpom attracted concrete interest from Nottingham Forest and Fulham in the winter market but Ajax blocked his return to England.
The former England youth international has made it clear that he wants to embark on a new chapter in his career next season due to limited playing opportunities at Ajax, with Brian Brobbey ahead of him in the pecking order of strikers.
The newspaper has revealed that Akpom is an interesting player for various Premier League clubs because he has British nationality.
Although he has pledged his international future to the Super Eagles and has been awaiting a call-up, the 28-year-old still counts as a homegrown player in England having spent approximately thirteen years at Arsenal before turning 21.
Furthermore, Akpom had a breakout campaign in 2022-2023, scoring 28 goals for Middlesbrough to win the Championship Golden Boot, PFA Championship Player's Player of the Year and EFL Championship Player of the Season.
The striker has tallied fifteen goals in 34 matches since his move to Ajax despite his limited game time.
Apart from Arsenal and Middlesbrough, Akpom lists Brentford, Coventry City, Nottingham Forest, Hull City and Brighton & Hove as his previous clubs in England.
