Arsenal winger beats 2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Akande to win Premier League award
Published: May 10, 2024
2019 Golden Eaglets invitee Adrian Akande has missed out on the Premier League 2 Player of the Month award for April 2024.
The official website of the Premier League confirmed on Friday morning that Arsenal winger Amario Cozier-Duberry has won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month after scoring four goals and registering one assist in the division last month.
Reading forward Akande had been in the running for the accolade after an outstanding month that saw him contribute to three of the eight goals scored by Reading's development squad.
Dujuan Richards (Chelsea), Alfie Harrison (Newcastle United), Aaron Bott (Nottingham Forest), Jack Thompson (Nottingham Forest), Will Lankshear (Tottenham Hotspur) and Rio Kyerematen (Tottenham Hotspur) were the other players nominated for the PL2 Player of the Month award.
With the exception of Reading's 3-0 win against Manchester City, Akande lasted the distance in all the matches contested by the Royals in the Premier League 2 last month.
The former Chelsea youth teamer registered assists in back-to-back matches against Tottenham Hotspur, Brighton & Hove and Manchester City.
Akande picked up in May where he left off last month by bagging a second half brace as Reading defeated Middlesbrough at the Select Car Leasing Stadium to set up a meeting with Nottingham Forest in the quarterfinals of the Premier League 2 playoffs.
2023 Flying Eagles invitee Ademola Ola-Adebomi won the Premier League 2 Player of the Month for November after starring for Crystal Palace.
