Report: Newcastle United ahead of other suitors in the race to sign Nigerian central defender
Published: May 12, 2024According to the online version of the Daily Mail, Newcastle are now in pole position to secure the signing of Nigerian central defender Tosin Adarabioyo who is also wanted by Tottenham, Manchester United and Chelsea.
Tosin is reportedly keen on working with the Magpies manager Eddie Howe, and is said to be convinced of joining the Magpies.
With long-term injuries to Sven Botman and Jamaal Lascelles, Newcastle have become short in the central defensive department and want to bolster it by signing the Fulham center back.
In addition to the Manchester City Academy product, they are also interested in signing Bournemouth defender Llody Kelly who will also become a free agent in the summer.
Tosin shouldn't have a problem of getting regular playing time particularly with Botman and Lascelles out for a while and that should also help him in cementing a place in the starting lineup.
He will be out of contract with Fulham in the summer and the Cottagers' manager Marco Silva, has also hinted that the former England youth international will leave the club in the summer.
Since featuring in the Premier League encounter with Liverpool last month, he is yet to make the matchday squad, making his departure from the Craven Cottage more likely.
