Arsenal target Super Eagles-eligible forward as alternative to RB Leipzig star
Published: June 10, 2024According to The Express, Arsenal are targeting a move for Super Eagles-eligible forward Dominic Solanke as an alternative to RB Leipzig's Benjamin Šeško.
The Gunners are determined to bolster their squad to close the gap on Manchester City and possibly contend on all fronts next season and have identified the need to sign a new striker.
Šeško is the club's priority target for that position but they face competition from fellow London rivals, Tottenham and Chelsea as well as Newcastle for the signing of the Slovenian forward.
The RB Leipzig star is one of the hottest prospects in European football at the moment after impressing in his first campaign in the Bundesliga, scoring 14 goals in 31 games, thus informing the competition for his signature.
With the possibility of the 21-year-old ditching Arsenal, the North London club are looking at alternatives and that has led to a link to Solanke who was also in brilliant form last season in the Premier League.
The Anglo-Nigerian forward enjoyed his best spell just yet in the English top-flight last term, starring for lowly-rated Bournemouth, scoring 19 goals and providing three assists.
He is said to have a £65m release clause which can only be triggered by some unknown clubs but it is unknown if Arsenal are one of those that can do so.
