16yo son of ex-Super Eagles striker to make decision on Wolves future amid interest from Chelsea
Published: June 23, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com has been told that Wesley Okoduwa will make a decision on his future with Wolverhampton Wanderers in the next few days.
Just in case his name does not ring a bell, Wesley is the son of former Super Eagles striker Emmanuel Okoduwa, who turned out for Ukrainian clubs Shakhtar Donetsk and Arsenal Kyiv during his playing days and is now based in Germany.
Emmanuel Okoduwa was instrumental in Nigeria's success at the 2003 African Games, where the Olympic Eagles secured a silver medal, and scored crucial goals against South Africa and Senegal during the group stage.
Wesley is now eligible to sign scholarship forms with Wolverhampton Wanderers, having turned sixteen last month, but the Molineux Stadium outfit are aware that they have a fight on their hands to keep hold of one of their most promising academy players beyond the end of this month when his schoolboy registration expires.
As first reported by The Secret Scout this past week, allnigeriasoccer.com can confirm that Premier League giants Chelsea hold concrete interest in signing Wesley Okoduwa as the Blues look to bolster their academy ahead of next season.
Emmanuel Okoduwa has made it clear he won't be swaying his son's decision regarding his team for the forthcoming season.
Wesley has seen his stock rise after he was called up for five Premier League matches against Newcastle United, Arsenal, Bournemouth, Luton Town and Manchester City in the second half of last season, whilst still a schoolboy.
On the international stage, the 16-year-old was a member of the Young Lions squad that won that Football Federations Cup in February 2024.
