'I had to bring him down' - Nigerian midfielder claims Ahmed Musa was faster than Gareth Bale in his prime
Published: June 27, 2024
Nigerian midfielder Gabriel Dada Adeboye, who once played against Ahmed Musa, has claimed that the Super Eagles skipper, a the peak of his career, was faster than former Tottenham forward Gareth Bale.
Musa is known for his blistering pace and has demonstrated it severally, most notably in the 2018 FIFA World Cup against Iceland when he raced past Kári Árnason before slotting past the goalkeeper to give Nigeria a two-goal advantage and bag his brace in the tie.
Bale was also known for his electric pace, with the way he raced past Marc Bartra in the final of the 2014 Copa deL Rey still fresh in a lot of fans' memory, helping Real Madrid get the better of their arch rivals Barcelona in the process.
Speaking exclusively to allnigeriasoccer.com, Adeboye who while playing Nigerian outfit Shooting Stars, came up against Musa who then was representing Kano Pillars, has claimed that the former Leicester City man, in his prime, was faster than the retired Bale.
"I played against Musa when he was at Kano Pillars, and I was amazed with his pace. I had to bring him down when he sprinted past me.
"For me, I feel he is faster than Gareth Bale, though maybe it is because I played against Musa and not him.
"So, I admit that playing against a player and watching him on TV is different, but then I still feel Musa in his prime was a faster player"
Musa broke the record for the most goals scored in the championship in the 2009/2010 season by scoring 18 goals for Kano Pillars.
However, his record didn't last long as Jude Aneke bagged 20 goals for Kaduna United in the following campaign.
