Teenage Nigerian midfielder signs new two-year deal with West Ham amid interest from 14 clubs
Published: June 28, 2024Allnigeriasoccer.com understands that left-footed Nigerian midfielder Tyron Akpata has committed his future to English Premier League side West Ham United by putting pen to paper on a new contract.
The 2006-born player has shown his loyalty to the Hammers by accepting their offer of a new deal despite interest from fourteen clubs, including six unnamed Premier League teams.
They either invited him to attend trials or proposed a direct contract offer.
Akpata is now contracted to West Ham until June 30, 2026, having put pen to paper on a two-year deal.
The talented player has been on the books of the Londoners since joining them at U15 level and rose through the youth team ranks to sign a scholarship contract before the start of the 2022-2023 season.
He was a member of the West Ham side that won the U18 Premier League South and FA Youth Cup in 2022-2023.
Last season saw him solidify his position as a key player for the U18s, with 21 starts in the U18 Premier League, contributing three goals and four assists.
Akpata's style of play suits Spanish teams and with West Ham appointing a Spaniard Julen Lopetegui as the new head coach, the possibility of a first team debut in the forthcoming season cannot be ruled out.
Another of his targets for the upcoming season is to make his debut for Nigeria's U20 national team, the Flying Eagles.
