Leicester City schedule medical for Super Eagles-eligible central defender
Published: July 06, 2024The transfer of Super Eagles-eligible central defender Caleb Okoli to Leicester City is edging closer.
According to transfer market expert Fabrizio Romano, the Italy U21 international is on the verge of completing a transfer to the Foxes, and the Premier League new boys have already scheduled a medical.
Europa League winners Atalanta have agreed to terminate their contract with Okoli two years before its expiration in exchange for 15 million euros (approximately N25 billion in Nigerian currency).
The Vicenza native was a player of interest to manager Jose Peseiro during his tenure as coach of the Nigeria national team, with the Portuguese stating that he gave Ademola Lookman the task of convincing the dual-national defender to pledge his international future to Nigeria.
Okoli has seen his first team opportunities limited at Atalanta since he was promoted to the senior side, leading to a loan spell at Frosinone Calcio, where he flourished last season, making 32 starts in the Italian top-flight.
His exploits at Frosinone have not gone unnoticed with Leicester City's recruitment team identifying him as a primary target in the summer transfer window.
Okoli will undergo a routine medical in the coming days before finalizing his transfer to the King Power Stadium outfit.
