Confirmed: Son of Nigeria's 1994 World Cup star signs new deal with Chelsea
Published: July 12, 2024With a statement on their official website, Premier League giants Chelsea have announced the new intake of academy scholars for the 2024-2025 season.
Allnigeriasoccer.com exclusively reported 171 days ago that Chelsea have offered a new contract to Landon Emenalo, son of former Super Eagles left-back Michael Emenalo ahead of the start of the forthcoming campaign.
Michael Emenalo, onetime Chelsea technical director, shone for Nigeria at the 1994 World Cup as cover for the injured Benedict Iroha, and a year later he was named in the squad for the King Fahd Cup.
The Blues have confirmed that Landon Emenalo is among eleven new scholars who have arrived at Cobham for pre-season training with the club's U18 team after signing their agreements at Stamford Bridge last week.
In the 2024-2025 season, Landon will be coached by Chelsea U18s Nigerian football tactician Hassan Sulaiman.
The 16-year-old has been described as a composed, creative and knowledgeable midfielder who notably thrives under pressure and in intense situations.
He joined Chelsea at U8 level before relocating to Monaco and then returned to Cobham as an U13.
Last season, he made his competitive debut in the U18 Premier League and made his first appearance for the development squad in a Premier League Cup clash against Colchester United in January 2024.
Apart from Nigeria, Emenalo is also eligible to represent the national teams of United States and England.
