Ogunneye, Oyedele train with Man Utd first team; handed provisional squad numbers
Published: July 12, 2024Nigeria-eligible duo Habeeb Ogunneye and Maxi Oyedele are aiming to impress Manchester United manager Erik ten Hag in the early part of pre-season, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The Dutch football tactician is running the rule over Ogunneye and Oyedele with a view to their possible inclusion in the traveling squad to Norway, where they take on Rosenborg in their first pre-season friendly at Lerkendal Stadion in Trondheim on July 15.
The two players of Nigerian descent trained alongside United's first team stars Andre Onana, Willy Kambwala, Casemiro, Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Harry Maguire, Jonny Evans, Marcus Rashford and Mason Mount in Thursday's first team training session at Carrington Training Ground
Eight Manchester United players who represented their nations at the ongoing European Championship plus three others involved n the Copa America are unlikely to travel to Norway, thereby increasing the chances of Ogunneye and Oyedele being named in the traveling squad.
Altay Bayindir, Diogo Dalot, Christian Eriksen, Bruno Fernandes, Rasmus Hojlund, Kobbie Mainoo, Scott McTominay, Luke Shaw, Lisandro Martinez, Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri have not reported for pre-season training.
Ahead of the Red Devils' first friendly, Oyedele and Ogunneye have been assigned provisional squad numbers 59 and 66 respectively.
Last season, the defensive midfielder sported the number 68 on his jersey, and the fullback had the number 75.
The two players have yet to make their senior debuts for Manchester United, though Ogunneye received nine call-ups for first team matches during the second half of last season, including seven in the Premier League.
