No going back: Super Eagles star pictured flying to Saudi Arabia to complete transfer to Al-Kholood
Published: August 14, 2024William Troost-Ekong, the assistant captain of the Super Eagles, is on the brink of completing a move to Saudi Arabian club Al-Kholood from Greek side PAOK.
There is no going back in the proposed move as Al-Kholood and PAOK have already reached a club-to-club agreement for the transfer of the Tottenham Hotspur academy product, who has also agreed personal terms with the Saudi team.
The 30-year-old central defender, who joined PAOK in the summer of 2023 as a free agent from Watford, has impressed fans with his solid performances.
Troost-Ekong made an immediate impact in Greece, shining in the first ten games of the 2023/2024 campaign.
However, his season was cut short by a severe injury sustained after leading Nigeria to the final of the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.
Despite the setback, Troost-Ekong has made a full recovery and resumed his role at PAOK, featuring in two UEFA Champions League qualifying matches and even scoring for the team.
His strong performances have caught the attention of clubs in Saudi Arabia, with Al-Kholood beating their rivals in the race to secure his signature.
According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Troost-Ekong and his agent, David Moss, are on their way to finalize the move.
This transfer would see Troost-Ekong join a growing list of Super Eagles players who have played in the Saudi Arabian top flight including Odion Ighalo and Ahmed Musa.
Since making his debut for Nigeria in 2015, Troost-Ekong has earned 77 caps and scored 7 goals for his country, including three at the 2023 AFCON.
