'He's also telling his club' - Trabzonspor president provides update on pursuit of Southampton striker Onuachu

Trabzonspor President Ertuğrul Doğan has provided an update on the club's pursuit of Southampton striker Paul Onuachu ahead of the close of the summer transfer window in England.

The Turkish side have been in discussions with their Premier League counterparts all summer but have been unable to reach an agreement for the Nigeria international.

Personal agreement is reportedly in place between Trabzonspor and the Nigeria international but the club will have to find a way to reach an agreement with Southampton who don't have the player in their plans for the season.

The Black Sea Storm had reportedly made an attempt to sign another Nigerian striker in Tolu Arokodare but were priced out a move for the KRC Genk forward.

Romanian striker Denis Drăguș who has only bagged one goal this term was signed by the club this summer to bolster the attack but that has not stopped their push to sign Onuachu.

Speaking on A Para via NTVSpor, Doğan confirmed that the club is still in discussion with Southampton for the Nigeria international and is confident of getting a deal done before the end of the transfer window.

"Onuachu is also our coach's first request. We are talking to him. He is also telling his club. We made a serious offer.," Doğan said.

"We made an offer with 6 million euros and bonuses. His club's demand of 15 million euros continues.

"The transfer period is ending. I think it will result positively with a loan or purchase like the last time. Our talks are ongoing."

Onuachu didn't make  Russell Martin's matchday squad for the opening Premier League games against Newcastle United and Nottingham Forest amid speculation surrounding his future at the St.Mary's Stadium.

He has been omitted from the Super Eagles' squad for the forthcoming 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualification games against Benin and Rwanda.
