Confirmed: Football League's Red Devils sign Super Eagles defender Tanimu for fee of N1.4b
Published: September 02, 2024With a statement on their official website, League One new boys Crawley Town have confirmed the signing of Nigeria international Benjamin Tanimu from Tanzanian Premier League club Singida Black Stars for an undisclosed fee.
Singida Black Stars officially confirmed on transfer deadline day in England that they have ended their association with the versatile defender in exchange for a total package of at least $850,000. (approximately N1.4 billion in Nigerian currency).
The Tanzanian club have also included a twenty percent sell-on clause into the deal taking Tanimu to Crawley Town, meaning they can expect to profit from his sale should he depart the League One club before the expiration of his contract.
The 22-year-old has put pen to paper on a two-year contract with The Red Devils, keeping him at the Broadfield Stadium until at least the end of the 2025-2026 season.
A product of Bendel Insurance, he has been capped by Nigeria at U23 level and was a surprise inclusion in the Super Eagles squad for the international friendlies with Ghana and Mali in March 2024.
Tanimu made his senior debut against the Black Stars featuring as a central defender and went the distance in the 2026 World Cup qualifying matches against South Africa and Benin, where he showcased his versatility by playing in the right back position.
The Super Eagles defender will start training with his new teammates at Crawley Town in the coming weeks.
