Odense Boldklub take 2024 U17 Afconq star on trial with a view to potential transfer
Published: September 05, 2024Danish 1st Division table-toppers Odense Boldklub have handed a trial to Nigeria U17 international Abdulwaris Yunus with a view to a transfer after he attains the age of majority.
According to Sport Fyn via bold.dk, the Golden Eaglets player is training with Odense Boldklub.
Yunus was a key member of the Golden Eaglets squad at the WAFU ZONE B U17 African Cup of Nations staged in Ghana in May 2024.
He put himself in the shop window at the U17 AFCON qualifiers, helping the five-time world champions to a third place finish and keeping three consecutive clean sheets in their group games.
On Thursday, Yunus, who is comfortable playing as a center-back or right-back, trained together with the first team players who were not in action in Wednesday's friendly against Silkeborg.
If he impresses the coaching staff at OB, the plan is to sign him for their academy team.
OB have explained that Yunus is basically not to train any more with the first team, as the main purpose of the trial is to see the young Nigerian in relation to a possible role in the club's academy.
The three-time Danish champions will continue running the rule over the 16-year-old until next Wednesday, September 11, 2024.
Nigeria internationals Kingsley Madu, Izunna Uzochukwu and Peter Utaka wore the colours of Odense Boldklub in the past.
