18yo Nigerian defender involved in Arsenal's final training session ahead of Bolton Wanderers clash
Published: September 25, 2024Nigerian fullback Josh Nichols trained with Arsenal's first team on Tuesday, their final workout before the home clash with Bolton Wanderers in the third round of the Carabao Cup, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
The 18-year-old has had more involvement with the first team this season due to his excellent display at the youth level over the past one year.
He made his debut for the development side last season and did enough to convince Mikel Arteta to be a part of the pre-season squad, making his senior debut in the friendly with Bournemouth in July.
He came close to making the matchday squad for the first time in the Premier League last weekend against Manchester City as he was named in the provisional squad for the tie.
With Arteta likely to rotate his squad for tonight's clash, Nichols will be hoping to make the matchday squad and make his competitive debut.
Unsurprisingly, Ethan Nwaneri was also pictured in training and the Nigerian midfielder is hoping to get his first-ever start for Arsenal.
Unlike Nwaneri, Nichols will feature more with the development side this season and was included in the squad photo taken yesterday.
Nichols has made two appearances for Mehmet Ali's side in the Premier League 2, starting the opening two games against Manchester United and Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Meanwhile, Bolton Wanderers summer signing Dubem Eze, a product of the Chelsea academy, will not make his senior debut against the Gunners, given that he was left out of the traveling squad to the English capital.
