PL2: West Ham wing-back Adiele nets brace in five-goal thriller against Chelsea
Published: September 27, 2024Nigerian wing-back Emeka Adiele grabbed a brace as West Ham U21s beat Chelsea 3-2 on matchday five of the Premier League 2 on Friday night at the Rush Green Stadium.
Adiele opened the scoring in the fifth minute with a fine finish, pouncing on a long ball before striking the ball beyond Max Merrick.
The 17-year-old doubled the Hammers lead in the 34th minute, producing a powerful finish to get his brace but the home side's lead was reduced on the stroke of halftime.
Harvey Vale placed a perfect cross into the area and Donnell McNeilly was at the right place to head the ball home.
Three minutes after the restart, Sean Moore dashed Chelsea's hope of staging a comeback, producing a precise finish to a counter-attack.
Three minutes before the end of the regulation time, Vale reduced the deficit for the away side.
Besides Adiele, two other Nigerians featured for West Ham, with Josh Ajala coming off the bench and Tyron Akpata played the whole game.
With his brace tonight, the Anglo-Nigerian wing-back has now netted three goals in five games in the Premier League 2 this term.
Talented forward Tyrique George and Richard Olise were the Nigerians that featured for the Blues in the encounter.
