'I can honestly say' - Fabrizio Romano reacts to reports linking Osimhen with Chelsea move in January
Published: September 30, 2024Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has revealed the true situation behind Chelsea's purported plan to make a £40m move for Victor Osimhen in the January transfer window.
The Blues were keenly interested in getting the Super Eagles striker in the last transfer window but failed in their pursuit and he eventually joined Galatasaray on loan.
Nicolas Jackson has been in good form this term for the club, notching four goals in seven appearances across all competitions while Nkunku has six goals in nine outings.
Despite the form of these two forwards, Chelsea are still said to be interested in Osimhen and some reports have gone to the extent of stating that they could make a £40m move for him in the January transfer window.
Speaking on the possibility of this in his column for CaughtOffside, Romano stated that while the Premier League giants still have a concrete interest in the Nigerian forward, there is no negotiation going on at the moment
"I've been asked about reports on Osimhen possibly moving for just £40m this January, with Chelsea said to be working on this deal behind the scenes."
"However, I can honestly say that nothing is happening now regarding Osimhen. I've said many times recently that Chelsea's interest remains, and they still like the player, but there are no negotiations ongoing, and it would be disrespectful for Galatasaray as they paid important money to land Osimhen on loan. So it's all quiet for now, and once we get closer to January we will see the developments."
Osimhen is feeling at home with Galatasaray due to his impressive start to life with the Turkish giants, registering two goals and three assists in four appearances.
Should he continue with his blistering form, the Lions will try to keep the 25-year-old beyond January, which will make it difficult for Chelsea or any other interested club to secure his services.
