Team news: Kehinde not in Ferencvaros squad; 18yo Nigerian forward travels with Tottenham
Published: October 03, 2024Manchester United academy product Tosin Kehinde will not be involved on Thursday evening when Hungarian powerhouse Ferencváros take on Premier League club Tottenham Hotspur in the Europa League, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.
While Nigerian fans hoped to see Kehinde prove his worth in the clash with Tottenham, the Lagos-born player is unfortunately not in contention to be included in the matchday squad.
Kehinde has not been registered by Ferencváros for the league phase of the Europa League, meaning he is expected to watch the game from the stands.
The 26-year-old made two starts for Ferencváros in the qualifying rounds of the 2024-2025 UEFA Champions League.
In his first season at The Greens, he logged only twenty eight minutes spread across three games due to fitness issues that saw him miss almost the entirety of the campaign.
Kehinde is gradually fighting his way back to full fitness and was singled out for praise following his last outing in the
Nemzeti Bajnokság I after providing two assists to help Ferencváros secure a 3-0 win against Puskás AFC.
Meanwhile, Tottenham Hotspur manager Ange Postecoglou made an interesting selection in his traveling squad, taking 18-year-old Nigerian forward Damola Ajayi to Budapest.
Although Ajayi has trained with Tottenham Hotspur's first team on multiple occasions, he has yet to receive a call-up for an official first team game.
He was named in the provisional squad for Tottenham's Premier League meeting with Leeds United in the 2022-2023 season, traveling with the first team to Elland Road as the 21st player.
London-born Ajayi signed his first professional contract with Tottenham in January 2024.
