Republic of Ireland legend slams one Chelsea player for coming up short in head-to-head clash with Ola Aina
Published: October 07, 2024Republic of Ireland legend and former Chelsea striker Tony Cascarino has slammed Jadon Sancho for his performance against Ola Aina during the Blues' 1-1 draw with Nottingham Forest at Stamford Bridge on Sunday afternoon.
The England international has looked reborn since his loan move to Chelsea but didn't have his best performance in yesterday's game as he was kept quiet by Aina.
Sancho had recorded three assists in his first three Premier League games for the Stamford Bridge outfit but his inability to add to his tally helped Chelsea get the better of a 10-man Nottingham Forest side must have been disappointing for some, with Cascarino being one of them.
Writing in his column for The Times, the former Republic of Ireland international expressed that the English forward didn't trouble Aina who looked defensively astute for Forest yet again.
“I was just left wanting more from him. Being OK, which is what he was, is a problem. The truth is that he made it easy for Nottingham Forest's right back Ola Aina to play against him,” Cascarino said.
"Chelsea have loads of wingers who can stand wide and pass the ball inside. Sancho can't afford to be mediocre."
Sancho was hauled off on the stroke of stoppage time for Mikhailo Mudryk but the latter didn't also help the Blues make their numerical advantage count.
For Aina, it was another good performance against one of the Premier League's finest wingers, establishing himself as one of the Division's most solid fullbacks.
The Cobham Academy product also fared well against an in-form Luis Díaz when Nottingham Forest recorded a shocking 1-0 victory over Liverpool last month.
