PL2: Arsenal forward Butler-Oyedeji continues remarkable form with goal against Chelsea

Nathan Butler-Oyedeji continued his rich vein of form by finding the net against Chelsea in a Premier League 2 fixture staged at Kingsmeadow on Friday night, allnigeriasoccer.com reports.

The Super Eagles-eligible forward has been nominated for the Premier League 2 Player of the Month, having won the award for August 2024.

Richard Olise, younger brother of onetime Nigerian Federation target Michael Olise and Tyrique George both started for Chelsea, while Butler-Oyedeji and Andre Harriman-Annous were named in the Gunners squad.

Butler-Oyedeji gave the visitors the lead with a cracking near post finish, with Oulad M'Hand providing the assist, but it was level at the interval as Donnell McNeilly equalized for the Blues after he was set up by George.

With seventeen minutes left on the clock, Brodi Hughes managed to get a cross past the Arsenal goalkeeper for what proved to be the game-winning goal.

Butler-Oyedeji is unlikely to be named in Arsenal's traveling squad for the Premier League meeting with Newcastle United given he was on U21 duties tonight.

With first-team forwards Bukayo Saka, Gabriel Martinelli, Gabriel Jesus and Kai Havertz spotted training at the Sobha Realty Training Centre on Friday, Butler-Oyedeji's chances for a third Premier League call-up have diminished.

Butler-Oyedeji is in the form of his life, having scored or assisted in every Premier League 2 match he's played this season, except for the game against Liverpool.

He has directly participated in twelve goals from nine appearances in all competitions for the development squad and was an unused substitute in the UEFA Champions League games against Atalanta, Paris Saint-Germain and Shakhtar Donetsk.

The Hale End Academy product has yet to make his first team debut for Arsenal but has gained valuable first team experience on loan at Accrington Stanley and Cheltenham Town.
