Transfer ban: Akwa United in desperate move to use newly signed players without clearing indebtedness
Published: November 02, 2024Less than twenty hours to the implementation of the transfer ban on all indebted clubs, Akwa United are making desperate moves to avoid the sanctions without clearing their indebtedness as directed by the Players Status and Arbitration Committee.
Report reaching our correspondence says Akwa United one of the clubs whose players' license was withdrawn and given notice to clear indebtedness before Matchday 10 has made a bold move to involve the NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau to override the competent independent NFF PSAC decision against the club of which the NPFL has notified the PSAC of the new development stepping down the said case to request for a reinvestigation of the case all over again.
After the case has been decided and done with as follows :
On May 10th 2024 decision passed by the NFF PSAC between Osahon Uhumwangbo & 2 others Vs Akwa United, a judgment sum of N47,050,000 which was earlier awarded by the NFF PSAC in 2015 was revalidated due to failure of the club making the payment and Akwa United given the window to appeal the judgement to CAS inline with Art. 70 of the NFF Status 2010.
From the decision sighted by your correspondence Akwa United the Defendant refused to make appearances before the committee during the proceedings and also didn't take the option of the appeal since the decision was issued in May 2024. Only for the club to be looking for ways to avoid the sanction in the decision by employing this unethical antics to get reprieve.
It is illegal for the NFF President to set aside a competent Arbitration committee decision arbitrarily without recourse to the bodies designated for the purpose , in this case it is the Court of Arbitration for Sports.
The subversion of process and procedure has plenty questions begging for answers.
Does the NFF President have the right to set aside a decision of an independent committee like the PSAC for whatever reasons?
Is the NFF President doing this because of the Akwa Ibom state government relationship with the NFF of hosting Super Eagles games?
Will the NFF President take this bait being offered by Akwa United to work against an independent committee like the PSAC which himself and the NFF executive committee gave authority?
Has it ever been heard that a Football Federation President distorts proceedings of the Football Tribunals even to world football governing body FIFA by any means?
Will Akwa United play with suspended players without clearing the arbitral award to these claimants, and without clearance from the PSAC?
Will other clubs like Abia Warriors, Kwara United, Enyimba, Elkanemi Warriors, not go the same route with this ugly precedent allegedly about to be set by the NFF President Alhaji Ibrahim Gusau, if Akwa United succeeds?
What becomes of the authority of the NFF PSAC after this?
The NFF and NPFL needs to reverse itself and allow the law to take its course for justice to be entrenched in our football as Nigeria football cannot pass this ugly route that threatens the entire football structure of the country where the NFF which is the highest football regulator in the country becoming the law maker and the law breaker at the same time.
